I guess if I have a "philosophy" on worship it is that's it's all about Jesus. (not about me)
That said, I know as a worship leader it's so important to lead by lifestyle and with the forms of music that people can relate to and with...at least as a starting or connecting point.
Paul said he learned to be all things to all men... I believe that really applies to us a worship leaders. Music can be used by the Holy Spirit to really touch people at a level that we can only watch with amazement at... as it happens. I personally love a very wide variety of music. However, a group of believers that is used to singing only hymns with an organ would probably not appreciate a rocked-out version of Rock of Ages ! (No matter how much I may love it, or how many hours I put into arranging it.) If I am the only one worshiping, than corporate worship is probably not happening! So, always worship with one eye open... figuratively speaking of course, (you'd look like you were winking continuously and that would be distracting to say the least! ) Seriously...keep distractions to a minimum to the best of your ability. Plan well, practice...pray!
I believe that worship is a wonderful form of evangelism. When someone whose heart is open to God encounters Him as his people lift Him up in worship...that person knows that they have touched something...witnessed something of God that is very real. It is God's reality in our lives that we all sought originally and honestly still do seek after!
If you are a worship leader new or seasoned...or maybe even burnt out... I would love to hear from you. Use the contact page to send me a note and I will get back to you. You can always call me too. 540-910-1769. It really does help to talk to someone who's been there...
